I bought a bike today. I was very impressed. I did, admittedly, fall off it within about an hour of getting it home in Mildred, but I still claim that wasn't my fault. You see, when I learned how to ride a bike, the left hand brakey thingie was the back wheel and the right one was the front brake. So, when I daintily squeezed the left brake to slow myself down, I had expected to slow down, not catapult myself over the handlebars - at what must've been some incredible speed, for extra sympathy - onto the tarmac. Pah! No real damage, I don't think. My head hurt for a while so I drank some 80p a bottle wine which also seemed to stop the left hand side of my body hurting too. Actually, enough of it seemed to stop the left hand side of my body full stop, so that can't be bad.
We got rid of Nicola today. Plonked her on a train from Angoulême after a quick meal. We wandered around doing some touristy things then headed back to the cottage via the biggest supermarket I have ever seen. Ever. It's there I bought my English-killing bike - along with a pump and some little gay gloves.
On the way home, I encountered another example of French masculinity being challenged by an English-plated car. However, the opponent was a Renault Clio containing about six teenagers, clearly hindered by weight. I enjoyed playing with them (uphill was best), especially waiting until they were just about level with me and gently toeing down and matching their speed. By the time they were irate (and waving) Liam suggested it might be a good idea to stop - which coincided with me being bored - so we pulled back gently and let them past. Oooh - childish things.
I am so annoyed I fell off a bike. I've not done that since the eighties. Pah!
