***** Welcome to Newton Toolkit, Demo Version 1.6.1 ***** With this version of Newton Toolkit (NTK) you'll be able to start writing your first Newton applications. NTK is the integrated development environment for devices based on the Newton platform. At the heart of the environment is a modern object-oriented dynamic programming language called NewtonScript that provides automatic memory management, integration with the Newton toolbox, as well as portability and compatibility across all Newton devices/hardware platforms. NTK also includes graphical tools, browsers for writing and maintaining code, project management tools, an inspector for run-time debugging, and access to a framework of pre-built reusable components from which to create your applications. See the Apple-provided sample code for Newton, also on our Web site, to learn more about Newton programming. With this NTK Demo you will have access to most of this functionality; however, this version is not intended to support full application development and has been limited in a number of ways. Specific limitations include the following: - Applications constructed with Demo NTK 1.6 announce themselves as demo applications when they are installed on a Newton. - The main heap size is limited to 1000K, and the build heap is limited to 100K. - No more than 10 files can be included in a single project. - Projects for custom parts cannot be built (but they can be opened). - The application name and package name cannot be changed. New projects created with NTK Demo 1.6 are given an application name of "Demo" and a package name of "Demo:NTK.Demo". - Package files and stream files cannot be added to a demo project. - Copyright string contains a prohibition against distributing demo applications. Newton Toolkit, Demo Version 1.6.1 is most similar to non-demo Newton Toolkit version 1.6. It differs from the previously-released Demo Version 1.6 in that it corrects a bug involved user-supplied install scripts. Please keep in mind that you are bound to the software license agreement for Newton Toolkit Demo. Applications created with this environment are not to be distributed and NTK Demo itself cannot be distributed. We hope you enjoy this version of NTK. Please send us your feedback via email to tools@newton.apple.com. Thanks for developing for Newton!
