The Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) is a client/server security protocol created by Livingston Enterprises and is on the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standards track (RFC 2138 and RFC 2139).  Security information is stored in a central location, known as the RADIUS server. RADIUS clients (such as a RADIUS-enabled NAS [Network Access Server], firewall or router) communicate with the RADIUS server to authenticate users.
