Multicast & Broadcast Filters
In addition to the other bridge
filters available on the KarlBridge platform, the
KarlBridge is able to filter traffic by Ethernet
(MAC) Address. This capability is quite powerful and
can be used to protect particular network hosts or groups
of hosts from traffic originating outside of the local
subnet.
In addition to protecting particular hosts, MAC Address
filters can also be used filter Ethernet packets by multicast
and broadcast address. This allows network administrators
to prevent unnecessary multicast and broadcast messages
from being propagated throughout the network while allowing
other useful messages to get to their proper recipients.
When properly configured, multicast and broadcast filters
increase the availability of network bandwidth and help
to prevent configuration information from hosts on local
subnets from being sent to other subnets or networks.
This increases the overall security of the network and
contributes to better performance throughout.
